Coronavirus COVID – 19 Advice from the UK Homeopathic Community (4Homeopathy)
All advice from the chief medical officer is based around hygiene and prevention. WE CANNOT STRESS STRONGLY ENOUGH THAT THESE MEASURES ARE OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE AND EVERYONE SHOULD BE ADVISED TO FOLLOW THEM. They include.

-Frequent hand washing
-Considerate Cough Hygiene
-Avoid touching your face
-Avoid contact with large numbers of people
-Isolation – if you are concerned you may have contracted the virus.
For further information see official guidance from the UK government, the UK NHS and the World Health Organisation.
What we know about Coronavirus – COVID 19
Coronavirus is a common virus which causes colds, influenza-like symptoms and pneumonia. COVID-19 is a new strain which means fewer people already have immunity to it. It appears to have the most severe effect on the elderly and people with existing medical conditions – particularly those with respiratory problems. There are no gold standard scientific trials available for homeopathic, or any other, treatment of this coronavirus strain.
How can I increase my immunity?
-Eating healthily, including at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day.
-Staying well-hydrated.
-Regular, moderate exercise.
-Getting enough sleep.
Additional measures for which there is some evidence for reducing the length and/or severity of upper respiratory tract infections include regular supplements of probiotics, vitamins C and D and Zinc.
Can homeopathy help?
Homeopathic medicines have been used extensively for flu-like symptoms and in epidemics around the world. If you decide to take a homeopathic medicine, this should be in addition to the various measures outlined above and should not be your only approach. Selection of the most appropriate homeopathic medicine is based on an individual’s unique symptoms. However, Gelsemium 30c and Bryonia 30c are commonly used for flu-like symptoms and have a long-established, traditional usage over many years.

Homeopathic options can form one part of your approach to the current Covid-19 outbreak but should always be used alongside other measures. If you have current symptoms or are concerned that you may have been exposed to coronavirus, it is important to call 111 to seek appropriate advice, in keeping with current guidelines.

Assessing the Evidence Base for Homeopathy

A Health Technology Assessment report on homeopathy commissioned by the Swiss government, has concluded that homeopathy is clinically effective, cost-effective and safe. This HTA report exhaustively reviews the scientific literature and its unambiguous, positive conclusions have resulted in homeopathy being included on the list of medical treatments which are reimbursed through Switzerland’s national health insurance scheme. (‘Homeopathy in Healthcare: Effectiveness, Appropriateness, Safety, Costs’ by Gudrun Bornhöft and Peter F. Matthiessen, 2011).

                                                         Bristol Patient Outcome Study

One of the most comprehensive outcome studies was an analysis of over 23000 outpatient consultations at the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital from 1997 to 2003. This represented over 6500 individual patients whose outcome was recorded as a follow up. More than 70% of these follow up patients recorded clinical improvement following homeopathic treatment in conditions including asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, chrohn's disease, eczema, headache, IBS, menopausal symptoms and rheumatoid arthritis. Most of the patients had previously received mainstream medical intervention and had either failed to respond or couldn't tolerate the medication prescribed. (

Paul McCartney, David Beckham, Twiggy, Caprice, Susan Hampshire, Tina Turner, Louise Jameson, Gaby Roslin, Jude Law, Sadie Frost, Nadia Sawalha, Jennifer Aniston, Jade Jagger, Roger Daltry, Annabel Croft and Meera Syal, as well as The Queen and Prince Charles, are all reported to be users of homeopathy.

Placebo Effect

Detractors of homeopathy continue to suggest that any beneficial effects of homeopathy are due to placebo alone. Over a period of 18 years Dr Reilly’s team at Glasgow University conducted four double blind placebo controlled trials, specifically designed to examine the evidence for this placebo hypothesis. All four trials, involving a total of 252 patients, produced similar positive results, demonstrating that homeopathy has an effect greater than placebo and that these results are reproducible.
